I was born and raised in Ventura County. I love the small town vibe and think it is also one of the most beautiful regions in California. I love the outdoors and enjoy exploring, hiking, camping, and backpacking in the Ventura County wilderness. In addition to nature, I love all things related to music and have been studying various genres of dance for most of my life. My friends would describe me as passionate, thoughtful, generous, funny, and enthusiastic.
For undergraduate education, I attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. After graduation, I served in AmeriCorps for two years where I was involved in a variety of children’s literacy endeavors. Upon completion of my service, I returned to Ventura County and attended California Lutheran University to earn my teaching credential and Master’s degree in Education. I began my teaching career in Oxnard, but have been with the Fillmore Unified School District since 2011. I love the Fillmore community and am grateful to be here.
Since childhood, I have always had two main passions in life: gaining knowledge about the world around me and making a positive difference in my community. As an educator, I have the opportunity to combine these two passions in my daily practice. My specialty is helping students to develop and continually improve their writing skills. By teaching students to master writing, I prepare them to be successful in college and in their future careers. In addition to writing, I love teaching literature. There is nothing better than to see a student devour a good story, begging for more. My goal is to teach students to critically analyze and evaluate fiction and non-fiction, as well as to discover new understandings of themselves and the world around them through reading.
My classroom is a supportive, creative, and rigorous environment characterized by mutual respect and high expectations for both behavior and academic achievement. I keep my students actively engaged while they are inspired to fulfill their highest potential. I greatly look forward to the opportunity to teach and learn with each and every one of my students!
