"Fire and Ice," a free verse poem by Robert Frost, has the underlying theme that our emotions are our destruction. For example, in lines 3-4, Frost writes, "From what I've tasted of desire/I hold with those who favor fire." In this quote, Frost uses a metaphor to show that desire is uncontrollable and fiery. Frost also alludes to the Bible when Eve eats the apple from the Tree of Knowledge and pays for it. This illustrates the theme because it implies that our strong desire for something will cost us dearly. Overall, "Fire and Ice" is an insightful poem with a theme that expresses great caution--our emotions can cause destruction within our lives.
Soccer is my favorite activity in my free time. Specifically, every time I go to soccer practice I get to play with my friends. This means I get to spend quality time with those closest to me, while learning a sport at the same time. It’s important to spend time with my friends because it helps me to develop my friendships and soccer gives me the opportunity to do this. All in all, soccer is my favorite after school activity because it gives me a chance to bond with other people as we work together as a team.
